Abstract

Speaking ability is one of the essential aspects of language development that should be cultivated from an early age, as it influences children's communication, thinking, and social interaction skills. However, in practice, there are still early childhood learners who face difficulties in expressing opinions, constructing sentences, and using vocabulary appropriately. This study aims to improve the speaking ability of early childhood through storytelling methods conducted in a home environment. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach involving four children aged 3 to 6 years living in the same household in Cimahpar, Bogor. The study was carried out for one week in April 2025. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results revealed that storytelling effectively enhanced children's speaking ability in four main aspects: listening skills, the ability to answer questions, the ability to retell stories, and vocabulary acquisition. Children showed increased enthusiasm, sentence structure development, and confidence in speaking and self-expression. This method also strengthened emotional bonds between parents and children, creating a supportive environment for optimal language development. Based on these findings, it is recommended that storytelling be routinely implemented at home and in early childhood education institutions, incorporating age-appropriate and interest-based stories through interactive approaches. Furthermore, training for parents and educators is essential to enhance the effectiveness of storytelling as a method for developing early childhood language skills.
